Outlook – error opening link

If you get an error similar to “you do not have permissions to perform this action, please contact your system administrator” when you try to open a link from Outlook, you are probably experiencing a problem with file association and not with an actual policy or restriction that has been applied to your machine.

One of the common culprits when this problem is seen is due to having installed Google Chrome and then uninstalling it.

Workaround:

Reinstall Google Chrome, then go to your “Default Programs” app within Control panel and then set another browser to be your default browser, for instance Internet Explorer or Firefox.  After you have set another browser to be the default, you can then uninstall Chrome again.
